Abstract
Teaching English in non-English speaking countries such as Indonesia faces several challenges, including teaching materials that do not meet students' needs, a less supportive school environment, and low student motivation. Writing is one of the most difficult skills for students to master as it involves aspects such as vocabulary, grammar, mechanics, organization, and content. This study investigates the effectiveness of using Padlet in improving the personal letterwriting skills of Grade XI students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekalongan. The study uses a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group. The experimental class is treated using Padlet, while the control class is treated using conventional media. The pre-test results indicate that all students were in the fair score category before the treatment. After the treatment, the post-test results reveal that the experimental class demonstrates a greater improvement in writing ability compared to the control class, as evidenced by the calculated t value (11.767), which is higher than the t table value (2.06). In conclusion, students taught using Padlet show a significant difference in writing personal letters compared to the control class. Furthermore, the treatment has a significant effect across all aspects of assessment, including content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics, as indicated by the t value (17.120), which is higher than the t table value (2.05). This shows that Padlet is effective in improving students' writing quality and motivation at the 0.05 level of significance, with a significance value (0.000) lower than 0.05. Padlet significantly affects students' writing quality and motivation across all assessment aspects, as evidenced by higher post-test scores and statistical significance. The researcher suggests that future research can provide a deeper understanding of the effectiveness of Padlet in learning writing, as well as better solutions to overcome the challenges in teaching writing in schools.
