Abstract

Teaching listening skill is a challenging task for the English teachers. The fleeting nature of sound usually makes the students find some difficulties to focus their attention on the listening material which is being listened to. So, teachers’ creativities are needed in this time. Teacher should deliver the interesting ways in order to conduct listening activities interesting, fun and communicative. This classroom action research is conducted at SMAN 1 Tumijajar, Tulang Bawang Barat. The subject of this study is tenth grade students especially X IPS 4 of SMAN 1 Tumijajar. The researcher chooses X IPS 4 as subject because of the students in this class get lowest score in listening skill than other class. This class consists of 34 students. The object of this research is listening skill using English song. In collecting the data the researcher used observation and test. The researcher found that the average of test in the pre-cycle is 32,6. Students’ participation in classroom also categorized as low 46%. Students’ mean score in the first cycle is 55,8. Students’ participation in cycle 1 is 64%. The result of students’ score and participation in cycle 1 is not fulfilling the criteria of success so the researcher discusses to English teacher to hold the second cycle. In second cycle students’ score is better than first cycle. In cycle 2 students’ score is 81 and the participation is 80%. Students more active and they can enjoy the class. The improvement of students’ score in every test also indicates the students’ listening skill is improving in every meeting. Based on the data, the researcher can conclude that the use of English song can make students more active, and interested in learning listening.
