Abstract

ABTRACT Pratiwi, Rohana. 2023. Comparative Study Using Print Media and Digital Media Towards Students Reading Comprehension Achievement In News Item Text at MAN 1 Lampung Timur, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Universitas Muhammadiyah Metro. Advisor: (1) Eva Faliyanti, M.Pd.BI (2) Yasmika Baihaqi, M.Pd.BI. Reading is one of the skills to understand the mind through text, and add to the unknown knowledge. By reading people can get information from books, magazines, novels, and others. The purpose of reading is to obtain information that is not known . The students’ Reading Comprehension at MAN 1 Lampung Timur is still low especially in reading news item text. There are some internal and external problems of students. To solve this problem, the researcher applied print media and digital media Print media and digital media is one of the promising media that can be implemented by the researcher. This research aims to examine whether there was a significant difference of using the print media and digital media on students reading comprehension of news item text in the twelfth grade of MAN 1 Lampung Timur. In this research, the researcher uses quantitative research. The instruments were pre-test and post-test. The sample was taken from two classes, XII IPA 1 and XII IPA 4 which consisted of 40 students. The assessment of the test results is focuses on students' reading comprehension of the text. Required test analysis using normality and homogeneity tests and data analysis using the t-test formula. The average results of the pre-test scores in the XII Science 1 and the XII Science 4 were 55,63 and 53,47, respectively. Whereas, the post-test results of the XII Science 1 were higher than the XII Science 4, namely 86,13 for the XII Science 1 and 76,96 for the XII Science 4. It can be concluded that there is a compare effect on students' reading comprehension after being taught using Print media and Digital media.
