Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Muhammadiyah University of Metro. Advisors: (1) Amirudin Latif, M.Pd. (2) Drs. H. Bambang Eko Siagiyanto, M.Pd. Keywords : Errors, Recount text, Writing. Students need to understand grammar, vocabulary, and ideas. Furthermore, they need to improve their writing. Writing Recount text can help students to explore their memories of past experiences using personal expressions and feelings. This research aims to analyze the types of errors and to find the most common errors made by students in writing recount text in the tenth grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Metro in the academic year 2022/2023 based on surface strategy taxonomy. The research method used was qualitative, with the researcher as the main instrument. The research instrument used for data collection is a test, and the data are analyzed using five analysis methods based on Rod Ellis (2008). This research shows four types of error in recount text: omission, addition, misordering, and misinformation. The number of errors made by the students was 77, and the most frequent error was a misformation error, with 52 error items (61%). The second error was an omission error, with 22 error items (26%). The third error was the addition error, with seven error items (9%), and finally, the least frequent was the sorting error, with three error items (4%). This research provides information or findings into the types of errors often made by students in writing recount texts. This research is hoped to serve as comparison, an ilustrative example, or a poin of reference. Additionally, the researchers to identify factors contributing to students’ errors when writing recount when writing recount texts that not been explored in this research.
