Abstract

This undergraduated search about increasing listenng ability by using total physical response method. The research is a classroom action research that was conducted in two cycles. The population of the research is the seventh grade students of MTS Ma‟arif 04 Rumbia in academic year 2019/2020 that consist of 32 students. The criterion of success of the research is if 80% from 32 students have a good participation along learning procces and if the 75% from 32 students get score 70 as KKM. The data was collected by using test, observation and teacher‟s interview. The result of the research indicated that the implementation of total physical response improved the students‟ listening ability in learning English. The average score of pre-test was 56. In the cycle 1, the researcher gave the treatment and get the students‟ average score of post-test 1 was 69,23. After applying the revised planning in cycle 2, the average students‟ score in post-test 2 was 76. It has reached 75% of 32 students that indicated the students passed the criterion of success. The result of students‟ participation in cycle 1 and cycle 2 did a significant progress and improves in every meeting of each cycle. In addition, the use of total physical response method was able to increase the students‟ listening ability in learning English. The research has the suggestions; for the English teacher, it is useful to implement total physical response method as one alternative teaching, for the students it can be used to make the students easier in listening a sentence and how to respond it. For the further researcher this study can be used as a reference.
