Abstract
The objective of this research was to get empirical evidence about the effectiveness of using TED Talks Video toward Students' Vocabulary Mastery and to identify the significant different students’ achievement in learning vocabulary through TED Talks Video. This research used a quantitative method. The sample of this research was the tenth grade of SMK N 1 Metro. With the total number of 35 students in the experiment class and 34 students in the control class. To obtain data, vocabulary test items were used for the pre-test and posttest before and after the treatment was implemented. The analysis technique of data analysis used t-test statistical analysis. The use of TED Talks video will be significant if t count > t table. Data analysis shows that t count > t table (6,843 > 1,996), so H0 is rejected or Ha is accepted. Based on the research finding, the researchers conclude that (1) the students' vocabulary mastery before being taught by using TED Talks video can be seen from the result of pre-test, there are 1 student get an excellent result, there are 5 students get less result and 29 student gets a low result. It means that there are 82,86% of students who get a low score. (2) The students’ vocabulary mastery after being taught by using TED Talks video can be seen from the result of posttest, there are 14 students get an excellent result, there are 20 students get a good result and there is 1 student get enough result. (3) The significant difference, between students’ vocabulary mastery before and after taught by using TED Talks video can be seen from the result of pre-test, it showed that 1 student who get score 80 – 100 whereas the result of post-test showed that 14 students who got score 80 – 100. It means that the result of this research showed that t count > t table (6,843 > 1,996). It was concluded that TED Talks Video can improve and effective to students’ vocabulary mastery. So from the result, the researcher suggest that the English teachers use TED Talks Video because it is effective strategies in teaching English vocabulary for students.
