Abstract

ABSTRACT Febriani, Ni Wayan. 2023. Improving Students' Reading Comprehension In Recount Text By Using Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) Technique At The Tenth-Grade Social Science 4 Of SMA Negeri 5 Metro. An undergraduate Thesis English Department Study Program Teacher Training and Education Faculty Muhammadiyah University of Metro. Advisor (1) Drs.Bambang Eko Siagiyanto, M.Pd. (2) Fitri Palupi Kusumawati, M.Pd.B.I. The aims of this research is to find out Whether Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) can improve students' reading text at the tenth-grade social science 4 of SMA Negeri 5 Metro or not. Find out Whether Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) technique can improve students activeness during in the learning process in class X IPS 4 SMA Negeri 5 Metro or not. The subjects were 34 students at tenth grade social science 4 of SMA Negeri 5 Metro. The criteria of success determined by researcher successful if 75% of 34 students follow the learning process well and also give good responses to the teacher and if the 75% from 34 students get score 70. The research was done in third cycle and obtained the qualitative and quantitative data. The data collection instruments were observation checklists, interview guidelines, and tests. The data were in the observation checklists, interview transcripts, and scores. The result of the research showed that the use of using Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) Technique in the teaching and learning process significantly improved the students reading comprehension. Based on the quantitative data, the students‟ mean value for reading comprehension. In the (Pre Test), the students’ mean value was 52,91 then, after Cycle 1 (Evaluation Test 1), the students’ mean value of Evaluation Test 1 was 64,84. Then, after Cycle 2 (Evaluation Test 2), the students’ mean value in the Evaluation Test 2 was 68,70. At last, after Cycle 3 (Post Test 3), the students’ mean value in the Post Test 3 was 82,05 In conclusion, the use of Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) Technique can improve the students’ reading comprehension. and This technique can make students active and increase each other's abilities in the learning process. Students can solve problems with friends and decrease boredom in learning activities. So, the students not only learn with the teacher but also learn together with their friends. Key Word: Reading Comprehension, Using Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) Technique.
