ABSTRACT Perdana, Rika Ayu. 2023. An Analysis of Commissive Speech Act in Avengers Infinity War Movie. An Undergraduate Thesis. English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Muhammadiyah University of Metro. Advisor: (1) Amirudin Latif, M.Pd. (2) Yasmika Baihaqi, M.Pd.BI. Keywords : Speech Act, Commissive, Avengers Infinity War, Movie. Communication is one of the fundamental components of language creation and comprehension, as well as socializing with other people. Understanding the commissive speech act is essential to developing language that could be more grammatical. This research aims to systematically and accurately describe the commissive speech act in the Avengers Infinity War movie in every utterance of the characters. The Qualitative Descriptive approach was utilized, with the researcher as the main instrument and supporting instruments such as documentation, tabulation, and bar charts used to acquire data from the movie. This research found 42 types of commissive comprising four types: 11 promises, 13 offers, 9 threats, and 9 refusals, with the offer being the most dominant commissive speech act. These findings support the idea that the Commissive Speech Act is crucial for conveying emotions and aiding the audience's comprehension of a movie's message. This connection has significant ramifications for future studies on communication and movies.
